Hafod cottage and Hafod y Llyn cottage are in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, surrounded by 30 acres of privately owned woodland. They are two-thirds of a mile from the road along a private track, in a highly scenic and secluded position. While perfectly passable to all normal cars, the track is steep and narrow in places and may not suit particularly unconfident drivers. Out of sight of one another, the two cottages are 300 metres apart at different levels.

Hafod overlooks the Vale of Ffestiniog, one of the most beautiful and best preserved wooded valleys in Britain. Excellent walks from the front door along a network of paths and tracks (good for mountain biking too) take you through deciduous woods protected by the National Park, National Trust, Woodland Trust and mixed forestry. A swimming lake and a request stop on the Ffestiniog Railway are both within easy walking distance. The picturesque village of Maentwrog with two good pubs is two miles away. Hafod's location 10 miles from the beaches at Harlech to the south, and 10 miles from Snowdon to the north makes it an ideal base for exploring Snowdonia.
